Back in the early 1980's, six of our paths crossed at a custom furniture shop in Ixonia WI. Over the succeeding years, following differing paths, working primarily in custom woodworking and building trades, through booms and busts, fires and floods, and the many turns life brings about, we each found our way back to Ixonia to work together again. Each bringing their own collection of skills and perspective that are the root of our latest endeavor. All of us at Crosscut take pride in what we do. We know you will see the difference our over two hundred years of combined experience makes in the work we do for you.
We strive to build cabinetry of excellent quality. Quality that starts with experienced guidance through out planning. Smart solutions we discover when what you want to build conflicts with your available space. Straight forward detailed diagrams for you to take your time considering. By selling direct we are not pressured to optimize a retailers profit by building inferior cabinets using the lowest priced materials and whipping them through production as fast as possible. Our building process has evolved over the years to where customization is our standard practice. Custom woodwork is all we do. All we have ever done.

Low enough that we offer as standard features many items that are typically upgrades with most cabinet retailers. We do not try to up sell. You will never be advised to add the latest and greatest gadgets. Although we will be more than happy to sell you that expensive contraption that's all the rage in the finest metropolitan kitchens, we will first offer you a more affordable solution that we put together right here in our shop.
From primitive to elegant and every style in between. Besides the ability to build your cabinetry with all the functionality you require. We have the flexibility to mix and match profiles to get you the look you want. We offer several wood species stained or painted in the color that's just right for your decor.
We are people who look to spend as much time as we can outdoors. As wood workers we understand the primary resource of our work depends on sustainable forestry in a healthy ecosystem. We feel a compulsion to do all we can to minimize activities that may cause harm to our environment. We source materials locally when we can. Much of our lumber is forested and milled in Wisconsin and surrounding states. We make every attempt to minimize waste by building cabinets with all 3⁄4” thick material, we are then able to use cut offs as unseen structural supports and blocking. Cut offs from our cabinet back panels are used as drawer bottoms. We aim to build cabinetry that will hold up for generations and with a lasting quality that should be worth the effort to refurbish when style and color trends change rather than just tossed in a dumpster where much of the mass produced cabinetry built today will surely end up.
When it comes to environmental bragging points, our non toxic, low emission finishing method is something we take pride in. Well before the so called “green movement” came to prominence, we made the choice to use all water based stains, paints and clear coats. This was a very challenging endeavor as there were few manufacturers of these products and no track record as to how to use them efficiently. Water based products were difficult to use and required extra effort to get a decent result. Through years of experience and experimentation we believe we have developed a process that is the cleanest possible at this time and gives you a great looking durable finish.
